History
“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Mrs Hould - History Lead
History at St. Andrew’s is exciting, diverse and relevant to our locality. Learning ranges from local explorers such as Captain Scott and Sir Francis Drake, WWII and the Plymouth Blitz to Black and British focusing on how life has improved for Black people living in Britain in the last 60 years.
History has always been held in high regard at St Andrew’s, with the school’s location having its own rich history. The History curriculum at St Andrew’s makes full use resources within the immediate and wider local area enabling children to develop a deep understanding of the rich history of their locality.
Topics have been chosen carefully to ensure children leave St. Andrew’s with a strong chronological understanding of local and British history. Each topic covers the same key concepts to allow for children to continually revisit and compare topics previously taught and to help them make sense of their historical knowledge.
